![]() ![]() In a large house typical of the 16th century, the House Museum of Cervantes opens its doors in Esquivias. Catalina was the niece of the nobleman Alonso Quijada Salazar, who some historians believe to have been the inspiration for the immortal literary hero, Don Quijote. The church preserves in the sacristy the Book of Matrimony, where the union is documented. Here, on the 12th of December, 1584, Cervantes married doña Catalina de Salazar y Palacios, a local of the town.
